Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISRG) develops the da Vinci surgical systems and Ion robotic lung biopsy platform. This report examines whether its leadership in robotic-assisted surgery can endure growing competition, and what that durability justified after a steep decline in its share price.

WHAT WE FOUND.

  • The installed base supports recurring revenue. Surgeon training and hospital workflows reinforce the da Vinci platform. Instruments, accessories, service, and operating leases accounted for roughly 85% of second-quarter 2026 revenue by the report’s calculation.

  • Competition starts with new adoption. Medtronic’s Hugo, CMR’s Versius Plus, and Johnson & Johnson’s Ottava introduce credible challengers. Winning hospitals adopting robotics for the first time and pressuring instrument prices could weaken Intuitive before its existing installed base visibly erodes.

  • Demand pressure is real; duration is unresolved. Second-quarter revenue grew 19%, while U.S. elective procedure growth moderated amid insurance-coverage pressure. The report treats the persistence of that pressure as an open question.

The base discounted cash flow estimate was $324.95 per share, below the $350.06 closing price on July 21, 2026. Despite the roughly 42% decline from the January high, the report finds an exceptional business at a demanding price. The valuation depends on sustained growth and higher operating margins, and remains sensitive to the assumed required return.
